We raised £1,756 for NHS Charities Together and travelled a collective 2,203 miles in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore
Last month IC24 ran a fundraising campaign to raise money for NHS Charities Together. The campaign was inspired by the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised almost £33million for NHS Charities Together during the first lockdown.
Last month IC24 ran a fundraising campaign to raise money for NHS Charities Together. The campaign was inspired by the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, who raised almost £33million for NHS Charities Together during the first lockdown. We're delighted to announce that IC24 raised a total of £1,756 for NHS Charities Together!
With the sad news of Captain Sir Tom Moore’s passing in late January, IC24 were determined to mark his memory with a fundraising campaign, inspired by his multimillion-pound fundraiser that started in his back garden. Jo Turner, our Director of Quality Improvement, pioneered the campaign after struggling to balance her wellbeing, exercise, home and work life during the first lockdown.
Between 15th March and 15th April, we invited all IC24 members to come together virtually to walk or run a collective 1000 miles. Our people racked up daily steps by walking the dog, running, or taking daily leisurely walks. After much comradery, IC24 finished on a collective 2,203 miles and raised £1,756 for NHS Charities Together! Our Executive team kindly boosted the original fundraising efforts by matching the money that was raised.
Annabelle Feetenby, Fundraising Executive at NHS Charities Together, said: "Thank you IC24 for organising this brilliant fundraising initiative inspired by Captain Sir Tom Moore’s amazing campaign. The money raised will help us to continue to go the extra mile in supporting our NHS workers, volunteers, and patients at the centre of this crisis and beyond."
Joanne Turner, Director of Quality Improvement at IC24, said: "Having worked as a nurse for 16 years, the NHS really means a lot to me. The past year has been incredibly challenging for all key workers and I have been amazed by the compassion and dedication of my colleagues. I was so inspired by Sir Captain Tom Moore's endeavour, whilst at the same time being aware that having once been an avid runner, my fitness and motivation had dramatically tailed off over the course of the last year. This was due to the challenge of managing work and family life, alongside the stresses and anxieties of a global pandemic. I knew it had impacted my emotional wellbeing. I decided to plan an IC24 collective challenge to motivate myself and my colleagues to get moving, improve our wellbeing, whilst honouring the work of our NHS colleagues and Sir Captain Tom Moore by raising money for NHS Charities Together. The response by all the teams at IC24 has been amazing and I'm so proud of everyone for their involvement."
