Colleagues from across a range of IC24 services came together over the weekend to support a community litter-picking initiative in a local coastal town, helping to protect the environment and improve local green spaces.

Working alongside the Hythe Environmental Community Group, volunteers spent time removing litter from the coastline before it could spread into the sea and local waterways, where it can harm wildlife and damage natural habitats.

The effort contributed to cleaner beaches and healthier marine ecosystems while supporting the work of a local organisation dedicated to protecting the environment for future generations.

Volunteering provided an opportunity for colleagues from different teams to connect, spend time outdoors and work together towards a shared goal, with the added wellbeing benefits that come from being active in nature.

Jai, our Sustainability Officer said: “The litter-picking session was such a positive way to spend the morning. With beautiful sunshine over the beach, everyone who took part agreed it was a valuable opportunity to spend time together away from the day-to-day routine, to connect with colleagues from across the organisation whom we may only see in passing or online, and give back to our local community alongside a passionate environmental group. We all left the session feeling fulfilled and proud of what we had achieved together. This was one of the most fulfilling days of my career, as it perfectly demonstrated how sustainability initiatives can benefit both people and the planet. By bringing people together around a shared goal and encouraging them to get outdoors and take part in an environmentally beneficial activity, the day created meaningful connections while making a positive impact on the local environment.”

The day highlighted IC24's ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and encouraging colleagues to get involved in meaningful volunteering opportunities.
