IC24 to Deliver COVID Medicines Service Across Suffolk and North East Essex
Contract award will enhance access to antiviral treatments for high-risk patients from December 2025.
IC24 is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the contract to deliver the COVID Medicines Delivery Unit (CMDU) service for the Suffolk and North East Essex (SNEE) Integrated Care Board, with the service commencing on 1 December 2025.
The CMDU will provide high-risk, non-hospitalised patients with timely access to COVID-19 antiviral treatments, supporting the NHS’s ongoing response to COVID-19 and embedding these therapies into routine care. IC24 has successfully operated this service in Norfolk & Waveney for the past two years following its transition from the region’s Acute Hospitals.
Mobilisation is already underway to ensure a safe and effective launch on 1 December 2025, reflecting the hard work and expertise of IC24 teams and their continued commitment to delivering innovative, patient-centred care.
Tim Merchant, Divisional Medical Director and CMDU Clinical Lead (Integrated Urgent Care), said:
“While COVID-19 measures have largely become routine, the virus remains a significant health threat to clinically vulnerable patient groups, including those with long-term immunosuppression or undergoing recent cancer treatments. The CMDU aims to provide a single point of access for patients concerned about their vulnerability to COVID-19, rapidly triaging and checking their eligibility for novel therapeutic antiviral agents to minimise their risk of clinical deterioration.”
IC24 has worked closely with hospital system partners to develop safe, robust and patient-centred assessment protocols for experienced CMDU clinicians, ensuring patients receive the highest standards of care.
Katherine Pitts, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, added:
“We look forward to working with system partners in the Suffolk region to expand the CMDU model and ensure a consistent offer across Norfolk and Suffolk, building on our experience of managing the service. Thank you to everyone involved in securing this important contract.”
