Meet Our Diversity & Inclusion Lead, Salma
A journey of learning, kindness, and meaningful change at IC24
by IC24
Having been with IC24 for just over ten months, my journey so far has been incredibly rewarding. From the very beginning, I’ve felt part of an organisation that is values-led, people-focused, and genuinely committed to positive change.
In my role as Diversity and Inclusion Lead, I have the opportunity to work across the organisation, collaborating with a wide range of teams and functions. My role spans the entire employee lifecycle, from attraction and recruitment through to development, retention, and engagement, ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion are embedded at every stage.
I work closely with our fantastic Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs), their leads, and champions, and together we help shape initiatives that reflect the voices and experiences of our colleagues. My work is varied and dynamic, ranging from analysing diversity data and colleague feedback to planning awareness events, supporting leaders, and embedding inclusive practices into everyday ways of working.
What I value most about this journey is how positive and ever evolving it is, and how much kindness underpins everything we do.
I’ve always been passionate about working within healthcare, so joining IC24 felt like a natural and meaningful step. What really attracted me was IC24’s clear commitment to growth, not just organisationally, but in how it supports and develops its people.
IC24’s values strongly align with my own, particularly the emphasis on respect and the organisations commitment to wellbeing. I also value the flexibility within my role, which allows me to balance my work alongside my doctoral studies. I have a real passion for learning, and my academic journey complements my role perfectly, enabling me to bring evidence-based thinking and continuous improvement into my work.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion is my role but also my passion, and IC24 gives me the space to live and breathe that every day.
One of the best parts of my role is working with the CRGs on awareness days and learning initiatives. I’m constantly learning, from colleagues, from lived experiences, and from the many teams I work with across the organisation. That continuous learning, alongside my studies, keeps my role fresh, relevant, and deeply fulfilling.
Some of my proudest moments come from seeing colleagues feel heard, whether that’s through positive feedback, visible changes being implemented, or simply seeing colleagues smile and feel included. Knowing that feedback leads to real action is incredibly powerful.
What truly sets IC24 apart is its people. There is a genuine culture of kindness, alongside a shared passion to grow, learn, and do better, for colleagues and for patients. That combination creates an environment where inclusion can truly thrive.
Working in diversity, equity, and inclusion can sometimes be challenging, as these topics can be sensitive or complex. Rather than one specific moment, the ongoing challenge is ensuring everything is approached with empathy, care, and respect, something I consider essential in every piece of work I do.
Working with colleagues across IC24, learning from different perspectives, and seeing collective willingness to engage in meaningful change is what makes this role so rewarding.
Three words that describe my role are: Evolving. Passion. Willingness.
