In our latest blog post, we look at the health benefits of walking. As well as being great for your physical and mental health, it’s free, easy and convenient too. What’s not to like?

Mental health benefits
Walking provides the best of both worlds. It offers the physical benefits of exercise whilst boosting your emotional wellbeing. Exercise helps to release endorphins that can instantly improve your mood, and when performed regularly, can help to ease stress and anxiety. You can build on the positive effects of walking by inviting a friend to join you, as physical exercise combined with positive social interactions can have great effects.

Physical health benefits
Physical activity doesn’t need to be complicated. Something as simple as a daily walk can help you to live a happier and healthier life. Regular walking can help you to improve your cardiovascular fitness, strengthen your muscles, increase energy levels, maintain a healthy weight and prevent or manage various conditions, including high blood pressure, heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The more frequently you walk, the greater the benefits will be.

Creating a walking routine
One of the best ways to start your new walking routine is to start small and build up endurance. Each time you go out, make sure to carve out a comfortable walking route, then extend your distance over the course of a couple days or weeks. Keep setting yourself goals to reach and celebrate your wins. Remember that it’s not always about the length of your walk, but the benefits you get from consistently doing it.
